10 Reasons to Move House This Year

January 3, 2018

Happy New Year everyone! It’s officially 2018 and we can’t believe we’re saying that. To start off this year with a bang, we thought we’d share with you our top ten reasons to move house in the next 12 months.

If you’ve recently sold your house and bought a new property, this may not apply to you. Although, who doesn’t love a good listicle? (Dictionary definition: A piece of writing or other content presented wholly or partly in the form of a list.)

10 reasons to move house

We won’t bore you any longer. Without further ado, here are the top ten reasons to up and move this year.

1. Fresh start for the new year!

First and foremost, the turn of a new year is one of the most traditional times for a ‘fresh start’. It’s when everyone starts a new gym routine, healthy eating regime or putting in more hours at work. Well, what could be more exciting than entering 2018 with a plan to move house and start anew?

2. Chance for a new layout and interiors

Speaking of starting fresh, a new house brings a whole new host of ideas when it comes to interior design. Perhaps you’ve worked tirelessly on your current home but you just can’t get it perfect? A brand new layout and interior may be just what you need. Often, a new home can also inspire magazine-worthy creativity.

3. More room or less room

This one depends on what you actually desire. Upsizing? Great, more room for family and friends (and clothes and gadgets!). Downsizing? Perfect, less cleaning and a cosier feel. There are benefits to going bigger and smaller but moving house will give you that chance to improve on your current house situation size-wise.

4. First-time buyer? It’s a great investment

If you’ve been edging towards the property ladder for some time but not quite making it, the new year is the perfect time to make that leap – especially taking into consideration the Budget announcement at the end of 2017. A house is a great investment for your future and this kind of asset shouldn’t be underestimated.

5. Give yourself a new lease on life

Feeling bored and unmotivated? Moving house could give you that push to kickstart a whole new host of achievements. It’s a big decision to take on but it can help you to become more organised in other areas of your life.

6. Clear out and move on

Speaking of being more organised? Moving is a great chance to clear out and declutter. You literally have no choice but to empty your home… but you don’t have to take everything with you to the new house. This can be particularly useful if you’ve recently suffered a loss or had a relationship breakdown.

7. New neighbours… new friends

Life is all about the relationships we make with other people. What better way to make new friends than to start fresh in a whole new neighbourhood? Well, life’s too short so find somewhere where you are surrounded by friends. Alternatively, moving house may mean you’re closer to the family which is super important.

8. Get closer to better amenities

If you’re starting a family this may be even more necessary for you. Making sure you’re close to decent local schools and good shops can make life as a parent so much easier. Perhaps you’re getting older or aren’t close to any family you can rely on, moving closer to a busy community can make you feel a lot safer and less lonely.

9. Seek a more quiet life

Alternatively, you may wish to move into a new area away from the hustle and bustle of town or city life. This is often the reason retired people up sticks into the countryside but that doesn’t mean younger families or couples should shy away from this idea. Living in a quieter area can be very rewarding (and great for the airways)!

10. Re-think your finances

If you’re a homeowner, a lot of your finances can be tied up in your property. It might be time to reconsider how you are organising your money – whether times are good or tough. Particularly, moving to a smaller house or cheaper area when you are struggling can help to reduce your living costs and decrease your mortgage payments. On the other hand, you may wish to climb another rung on the property ladder if your wallet is flourishing! Living in a more expensive house can also force you to be a better budgeter.

Okay, we know we said ten reasons. But we have a sneaky bonus. Why should you move house this year?
