Buying a home in Westminster Park? What to know

Another fantastic suburb in Chester, Westminster Park has long been one of the most searched after residential areas thanks to its close proximity to the city centre, transport links to North Wales and the lush green park from where it takes its name. Let’s take a closer look at why you should buy a home in Westminster Park.

History of Westminister Park

Westminster Park benefits from spectacular green spaces, a large park area, access to motorway links and a close proximity to Chester City Centre.

The area now covered by the Lache estate and Westminster Park comprised fields and farmlands belonging to the Duke of Westminster and it wasn’t until the 1920s where development began and saw expansion in 1931 1 and the area where Westminster Park is today remained as fields while the Lache Park estate developed on its westerly boundary.

In May 1946, the Duke of Westminster leased these fields to Chester City Council for a term of 999 years at a peppercorn rent of 5 shillings (25 pence) per annum. The lease stipulated that the land should be used only as a public park, pleasure ground, playing field or recreation ground. Apart from sports pavilions, lodges and greenhouses, no other buildings were allowed. The lease also stated that no fair, political or other public, religious, sectarian trade association or auction were to be held, assemble or meet in the park.

Westminster Park today now includes a nine hole golf course, tennis courts, a cricket club and has even seen applications for a BMX park thanks to the area being popular for families and children.
